Mala Tote Bag

This special canvas tote bag was created in 2018, inspired by a group of incarcerated women I interviewed about their scent memories and their survivorship. The word "mala" has multiple meanings -across South Asia it means  a garland of flowers, or a garland of stories; in Spanish it means a "bad" woman, irreverent and powerful, as are these women.
